Who We Are

A voluntary, non-profit collective of scientists and clinical lab professionals united by a single goal: making statistical quality tools digital, accessible, and free.

Lab R Group members

// our story

The LabR Group was founded in 2021 by a group of clinical laboratory professionals who recognised a critical gap: Brazil's labs needed modern, data-driven quality tools — but existing solutions were either proprietary, expensive, or inaccessible.

// our approach

We chose R — a powerful, open-source statistical programming language — as our foundation. Every tool we build is free, every line of code is published on GitHub, and every method follows international standards (CLSI, ISO 15189, IFCC).

// our community

We are affiliated with the Quality Committee of the Brazilian Society of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (SBPC/ML), and engage with global bodies including ADLM, CLSI, and IFCC.

Mission

To implement digital transformation in clinical laboratory quality management through the R programming language — open source, reproducible, and free of charge for all.

Vision

A future where every clinical laboratory in Brazil — regardless of size or budget — has access to state-of-the-art statistical quality tools.

Values

Scientific rigour, transparency, collaboration, and accessibility. We believe that better lab quality leads to better patient outcomes.

Areas of Expertise

Reference Intervals

Robust, partition-aware reference interval computation following IFCC C28-A3 and EP28-A3c guidelines, implemented in our open-source LabRI suite.

Statistical Quality Control

Westgard rules, sigma metrics, OPSpecs analysis, QC planning and error detection — all in reproducible R workflows.

Method Validation

Bias, precision, linearity, commutability and measurement uncertainty — following CLSI EP protocols and ISO 15189 requirements.

Artificial Intelligence

Machine learning applied to laboratory diagnostics: clustering, classification, delta checks, and intelligent decision support.

Biostatistics

From descriptive statistics to multivariate methods — we make biostatistics accessible to laboratory professionals without a programming background.

Knowledge Dissemination

Blog posts, a free e-book, YouTube tutorials, and conference presentations — all designed to grow the quality culture in Brazilian labs.
